JANESVILLE, Wis. -- A Beloit man accused of forcing a woman into prostitution will go to trial.
Charles Bell, 60, is charged with 21 felony and misdemeanor counts including human trafficking, battery, false imprisonment and second-degree recklessly endangering safety. During an arraignment Friday he pleaded not guilty.
A criminal complaint alleges Bell referred to himself as a pimp and forced a woman who he was living with to exchange sexual acts with men for cash. He allegedly forced her to smoke crack before the men arrived, and also sold crack to the men.
Police arrested Bell in January following an incident where he allegedly threatened, pistol-whipped and shot at a man who had come to his home.
Trial dates in the case have not yet been set.
