A video posted on social media showing a takedown by Waterloo Regional Police officers at a Kitchener encampment creates an irresponsible narrative that doesn’t reflect the facts, said the police service’s director of corporate affairs.
The video has led to online backlash. The incident occurred Aug. 29 and the footage was captured from a stopped vehicle, showing officers, with guns drawn, yelling at a man to get out of a tent at the Victoria and Weber streets encampment.
Police said they received reports he was carrying a gun.
Officers kicked down the side of the tent to get the man out of the entrance and then rushed in to take him down. One officer came around to the side of the man and kicked him in what appears to be the chest area.
