Gorham, N.Y. — Hand sanitizer leaking from a huge warehouse fire in Ontario County Saturday night created a burning stream of water in a ditch.

A video by the Crystal Beach Fire Department captures the ditch engulfed in flames as crews worked to put out the fire at the more than 50,000-square-foot Eco Operations warehouse in Gorham, a town between Canandaigua and Seneca lakes.

“With all the water that was necessary to put on the site, and all the hand sanitizer, there was a flow downhill and was in the ditch in front of this building,” Gorham Town Supervisor Dale Stell said.

“It would have been on fire before it got to the ditch,” he said. “Hand sanitizer has a certain percentage of alcohol, and it floats on top of water.”
