A Venice, Florida man involved in a traffic crash in Commerce Township on Monday morning has died, officials said.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said James Raymond Skiver, 81, died on Sept. 4, three days after a crash on M-5 at 14 Mile Road. Skiver was a passenger in a 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander, driven by his 73-year-old wife who turned right from M-5 to 14 Mile Road into the path of a 2023 Acura RDX, the sheriff’s office said. According to witnesses, the Acura had the green light when the collision occurred, the sheriff’s office said.

Paramedics transported Skiver, his wife and the Acura’s driver to an area hospital, and Skiver’s condition worsened during his hospitalization, the sheriff’s office said.
