A historic Lisbon streetcar popular with tourists derailed Wednesday, killing 16 people and injuring 21 in one of Portugal’s worst recent tragedies.

Most victims were foreign tourists from multiple countries including Britain, Canada, South Korea and the United States visiting the popular attraction.

Multiple agencies are investigating the cause of the crash involving the century-old funicular, with preliminary reports expected within days.
