MT VERNON, Ind. (WEVV) — Two Posey County parents have been arrested for neglect after nine kids and six animals were removed from their home, according to police.

The Mt. Vernon Police Department says officers were dispatched to a home on East 5th Street after someone called 911 with concerns about the number of animals in the house.

When police arrived, they say David and Terri Harner answered the door and let them in. Before officers even made it inside the house, they say they could already smell the overwhelming stench of feces and urine.

Immediately upon entry, officers say they had to step over piles of animal feces and puddles of urine on the floor.
