A mother was stabbed to death and her daughter was injured in an attack in a Kirkland apartment late Thursday night, police said.

The daughter called 911 at about 11 p.m. on Thursday reporting that she and her mother had been stabbed inside their apartment at the Kirkland Heights Apartments in the 13400 block of Northeast 132nd Street, the Kirkland Police Department said in a news release. She told police they knew the suspect.

By the time officers arrived, the suspect had fled, police said. They found both women with stab wounds. They were given medical aid and taken to Harborview Medical Center.

The daughter was taken into surgery, police said, but her mother died.
