Des Moines police officials are asking for the public's help solving a 38-year-old cold case of a woman found killed in the River Bend neighborhood.
A 7-year-old boy discovered the body of 22-year-old Jamedia Hines in the 1700 block of Oakland Avenue on Sept. 5, 1987, while he was on a walk, according to a Facebook post from the Des Moines Police Department .
A forensic autopsy showed Hines, a mother of three, had been strangled to death. The autopsy did not show signs of sexual assault, police said.
Detectives followed leads on Hines' death until the mid-1990s when the case turned cold, but her family has not stopped looking for answers, police officials wrote.
