JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The former Johnson City Press building has sold, and new owners Grant Summers and Greg Cox hope to breathe new life — eventually — into the roughly 45,000-square-foot downtown structure.
Cox, a realtor, and Summers, head of Summers-Taylor Inc., bought the building at auction in late July for $614,250. Both said despite not having much time to really dig into the structural layout, they wanted to make the purchase so they'd know it was in the hands of people who planned to keep it standing if at all possible.
The building takes up most of a small city block bounded by West Main, Boone, West Market and Dodge streets. It's actually two connected structures, the first (about 17,000 square feet) built in 1930 and once home to Johnson City City Hall. The Johnson Ci
