Members of the Indiana National Guard have been tasked with providing administrative, transportation and logistics support to federal immigration authorities operating at locations across the Hoosier State.

Officials confirmed Friday that approximately 40 Indiana National Guard soldiers and airmen have been mobilized by Republican Gov. Mike Braun, at the request of the U.S. Department of Defense, to aid U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities in Indiana.

National Guard members will not be performing law enforcement functions or making arrests as part of their mission to assist ICE in processing and detaining individuals not legally permitted to be or remain in the United States, officials said.
