CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - A Cedar Rapids man was sentenced after leading Iowa State Patrol troopers on a chase that ended in a crash .
On April 22, troopers witnessed 21-year-old Nicholas Bernard traveling on I-380 southbound at over 100 miles per hour (mph).
Troopers also saw Bernard exit a lane and drive on the shoulder of the road to cut multiple other vehicles off.
The Iowa State Patrol attempted to pull Bernard over near Melrose Avenue and Kennedy Parkway in Iowa City, but he refused to stop, leading them on a chase.
Bernard continued driving east on Melrose Avenue, reaching speeds of 85 mph in 35 mph and 25 mph zones. He continued to flee from officers until he eventually crashed at the intersection of N Governor Street and E Market Street.
