DETROIT -- Detroit Tigers reliever Kyle Finnegan said he is “super optimistic” that he will not only be available to pitch in the playoffs, but also back in time to help finish out the regular season.

Finnegan was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to Sept. 1 with a mild right adductor strain. He will be eligible to return on Sept. 16, with 12 games still remaining in the regular season.

“I’m going to attack the rehab one day at a time. I’m feeling really confident about where I’m at already, so I’m going to trust the plan and expect to throw a few more games in the regular season and be ready for postseason,” Finnegan said.

He felt groin discomfort while warming up in the bullpen on Wednesday and never entered the game.
