Indiana State Rep. Maureen Bauer (D-South Bend)

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Office of Indiana State Rep. Maureen Bauer (D-South Bend) announced the FBI and the Indiana State Police are currently investigating a case of sextortion targeting her.

Bauer's office stated they are aware of a photo of Bauer that has been digitally manipulated and is a fabrication. They add it is false, non-consensual, and intended only to harass and intimidate.

Bauer was first notified by email about the images on Sept. 3, and reports were filed immediately with ISP and the FBI. Bauer is fully cooperating with their investigations.

This is considered a serious crime under both Indiana and federal law.

This is now an active criminal investigation.
