Prince George’s County police announced Friday morning that a man is facing charges in connection with the death of 19-year-old Dacara Thompson, who was reported missing last month.

On Sept. 5, homicide detectives developed probable cause to present charges. Friday morning, police said 35-year-old Hugo Hernandez-Mendez is facing charges of first- and second-degree murder.

Timeline:

Thompson was last seen Aug. 22 and reported missing Aug. 23.

Aug. 21, her family located her vehicle in the area of Jasmine Terrace near Hyattsville.

Aug. 23, investigators found additional evidence in the area of University Boulevard, also near Hyattsville.

Aug. 31, Thompson’s body was discovered by Maryland State Police near eastbound Route 50 at Route 97.
