GANANOQUE – Gananoque council has unanimously backed a motion from Coun. David Osmond requesting that Mayor John Beddows provide more detail on his use of Ontario’s “strong mayor” powers to guide the town’s 2026–27 budgets. Article content
The Sept. 2 motion, seconded by Coun. Anne-Marie Koiner, asks Beddows to present supplemental information on Mayoral Directive 2025-002 at the Sept. 16 council meeting. Council will then be able to comment on and vote individually on the 27 items in the directive. Article content

“Strong mayor powers are new and I want us to figure out a way through the transition together,” Osmond said, calling the budget “a $25-plus million document” that requires input from staff, management, and council.
