SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (WTVO) — 76-year-old Roland Schmidt, of Stillman Valley, Illinois, pleaded not guilty after allegedly fatally shooting his daughter-in-law at a wedding.
Schmidt fatally shot the woman outside a Marriott Hotel, according to Schaumburg Police.
He was reportedly restrained by family members and an off-duty officer when the shooting happened.
Officials recovered a firearm at the scene.
Schmidt was upset about the woman filing for divorce against his son, according to authorities.
He planned to take his own life after killing the woman "execution style," police reported.
Schmidt is charged with first-degree murder.
