PAINESVILLE, Ohio — Lake County residents will have an opportunity to safely dispose of household hazardous waste during a special collection event Sept. 20 at the Lake County Fairgrounds.
The event, organized by the Lake County Solid Waste District, runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1301 Mentor Ave. Crews will unload items directly from vehicles at a designated drop-off point.
Accepted materials include most automotive and household cleaners, lawn and pool chemicals, lightbulbs, batteries, aerosols, propane tanks, kerosene, mercury, oil-based paints, polyurethanes, primers, grout, roofing tars, shellacs, stains, thinners, turpentine and varnish.
Prohibited items include ammunition, explosives, latex paint, medical waste, prescription medications and smoke alarms.
