(KRON) -- The family of an 18-year-old has filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Contra Costa County after they say he died from carbon monoxide poisoning following being trapped inside the problematic garage of a Pleasant Hill apartment complex.

Adeep Muthanna passed away Feb. 18, 2023, following the incident at Wood Creek Apartment Homes, according to family. They said Muthanna had come to the U.S. to work and help support his mother who lives in Yemen.

The family believes it was a tragedy that never should have happened.
