ST PAUL, Minn. — Students at St. Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists led their classmates in a walkout Friday, joining dozens of Minnesota schools taking action after last week’s mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis.

Student organizers, including Mason Yang and Lexi Anderson, said they should not have to protest for their safety.

“I hope to see stricter gun laws,” Yang said, while Anderson added, “We have to protest our right to live.”

Students coordinated the walkout through Student Demand Action, a national group helping youth advocate for gun safety measures. Minnesota schools joined students across the nation who left their classrooms to demonstrate.
