A wolf believed to be have been fatally shot after a series of sheep depredations in Rio Blanco County is the uncaptured fifth yearling of the original Copper Creek pack, state wildlife officials confirmed.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife identified the wolf as a male from the pack through DNA evidence, the agency stated in a Sept. 5 news release, which linked to the agency's full report of the incident.
