PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - The Greater Peoria workforce is experiencing more stability compared to the federal economy.

That’s according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which released its August employment summary, showing a slight increase in federal unemployment levels. The report indicates a 4.3% current unemployment rate, which has bounced between 4.0% and 4.5% since August 2024.

Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce President Jessica Linder Gallo said Peoria’s unemployment rate is slightly below the national average at 4.2%. However, she said that the local rate has shown a consistent decrease year after year.
