A court hearing set for next week on whether to approve the billionaire Weston family’s $12.5-million bid for the 1670 Royal Charter that launched the Hudson’s Bay Company has been adjourned because of interest from other parties, according to a source familiar with the matter.
The financial advisers handling the sale need more time to develop a process that will determine the fate of the document – which holds a singular importance in the history of the country – because of interest expressed by Canadian businessman David Thomson in submitting a bid, as well as interest from others, the source said.
