North Cowichan is going to the dogs this weekend, with competitors coming to partake in a regional competition in dog dock diving.

The municipality is home to Vancouver Island’s only official sized, North America Diving Dogs (NADD) sanctioned Dock Diving facility.

And on Saturday it will also host the 2025 Canada Western Regionals.

Dock diving is broken up into three disciplines: distance jumping, hydro dash and air retrieve.

“Any dog that jumps from the dock into the pool is already a competitor,” Kim Sirett, owner of Pooch Pool School, said.

“That’s all it takes.”

Their owners say it’s a true team sport.

“I’m the thrower and they’re the catcher,” Sirett said. “You have to work together.”
