KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A café and hangout spot in a historic Kansas City, Missouri neighborhood has had questions surrounding the locks on its doors; it hasn't been open for two months now.

Residents nearby, both on and off camera, shared that Happy Gillis Café & Hangout is a true asset to the neighborhood.

“It’s such a great neighborhood. It's like living on Sesame Street,” a resident who lives in the area, John Burnett, said.

Right now on Gillis Street, Happy Gillis Café and Hangout’s windows are shut, and its doors are locked.

Online, it's "temporarily closed."

“It’s been really weird,” Burnett added on how it’s been since the café closed.

It’s changed ownership over the years, a few times.

“We've missed those encounters with our neighbors, that are kind of serendipity, you know,” I
