LYNN — On a picture-perfect Friday at Manning Field, St. Mary’s cruised to a 28-0 victory over Swampscott.
Both teams entered the contest with high expectations, having qualified for the playoffs in the 2024 season. However, the game quickly got away from Swampscott (0-1), while St. Mary’s (1-0) showcased an impressive rushing attack and a defense that will be able to produce turnovers.
The scoring got started on the Spartans’ first drive when senior quarterback Yaniel Belliard threw a 36-yard bomb to sophomore receiver Michael Sherman. This was one play after Swampscott jumped offside on a fourth-and-short to give the Spartans a free first down. The extra point doinked off the upright to keep the score 6-0.
The first drive for St. Mary’s saw Belliard get injured while playing defense.
