Nearly 40 hours after a cyberattack knocked it offline, an Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office computer system is operational again, OPSO said late Friday.

Hackers struck the jail's AS400 system , which is used for bond transactions, jail releases and communications with other agencies, at around 4:30 a.m. Thursday, according to OPSO. The agency’s IT team learned of the ransomware attack about three and a half hours later, after employees reported trouble accessing their computers.

Sheriff Susan Hutson’s office did not say whether the AS400 system was the sole target of the attack or if other OPSO systems were compromised. The Sheriff’s Office website and DocketMaster, the online court-record portal, remained offline Friday evening.
