LEXINGTON, S.C. — Downtown parking in the Town of Lexington just got a little easier.
A newly paved 72-space parking lot has officially opened next to the Old Mill after sitting vacant for 10 years. The lot had previously been left unusable following damage from the 2015 Thousand-Year Flood.
“We constantly heard, ‘Man, it’s so packed over there, we need more parking,’” said Council Member Gavin Smith.
Before the lot reopened, parking was limited to smaller nearby lots or street parking several blocks away near Main Street.
Rick Lovering, a frequent visitor to downtown, said he used to circle the area trying to find a spot. “This lot was very muddy, and there wasn’t any quality to it,” Lovering said. “So your car got very messy, it was hard to walk around.”
