OREGON, USA — Oregon officials pushed back Friday against President Donald Trump’s recent comments calling mail-in voting “corrupt,” vowing to protect the state’s decades-old vote-by-mail system.

Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read , alongside state and federal lawmakers, said the system is secure, cost-effective and encourages higher voter turnout, despite Trump’s claims.

Democrat Congresswoman Maxine Dexter agreed: “We know that when you make voting easier, people are more likely to vote, and that's what terrifies Donald Trump.

“His recent threat to sign an executive order ending vote by mail is not just illegal at face value, but is, as you've heard, yet another attempt to suppress our democracy and to keep his allies in power," she continued.
