LOCUST GROVE, Ga. — An officer fatally shot a knife-wielding man while responding to a house fire in Locust Grove on Thursday morning, according to the police department. A woman was also found dead inside the home, authorities said.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the man who died as 29-year-old Stefan Lee, of Locust Grove.
The incident unfolded in the early morning hours, just before 3:40 a.m. The 911 center received a call about a fire at a house in the 1700 block of Cadence Street.
Police arrived and said officers encountered a man at the back door with a large knife.
The GBI said Lee didn't follow the officer's commands to drop the knife. The agency added that he rushed at officers with the weapon. An officer shot the man when he refused to drop it. He was pronounce
