PULASKI COUNTY, Mo. ( KMOV /Gray News) - Army officials at Fort Leonard Wood said a soldier died while training on a rifle range Friday.

Officials with the U.S. Army training center said an 18-year-old soldier from California who was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 48th Infantry Regiment, suffered a fatal injury at around 10:30 a.m.

He was pronounced deceased on-site by medical personnel at the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital.

Officials said an investigation into what happened is being handled by Fort Leonard Wood law enforcement and the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division.

No other soldiers were injured.

Fort Leonard Wood did not immediately release the name of the soldier or further details.
