(Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.) — A Fort Leonard Wood soldier has died while training at a rifle range today.

The 18-year-old unidentified infantry member was pronounced dead on site at 10:33 a.m. Friday by General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital medical personnel, according to law enforcement.

Details surrounding the death are unknown, including if the person was killed by friendly fire or another way. In a news release from the southern Missouri base, it said an investigation is underway by Fort Leonard Wood law enforcement and the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division.

The soldier is from the state of California and was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 48th Infantry Regiment. Their gender is unknown.

Fort Leonard Wood said no others were injured.
