CENTREVILLE, Ala. ( WBRC ) - After losing the Centreville mayoral election by two votes, incumbent Mayor Mike Oakley has filed a lawsuit contesting those results.

After election night, both Oakley and challenger Barry Cooner had 326 votes each.

Then Oakley had fewer votes than Cooner after four provisional ballots were counted.

Friday morning, Sept. 5, Centreville’s city clerk said there would not be a recount, but court documents filed by Oakley claim some ballots were counted that shouldn’t have been, adding that election officials acted improperly, and the final reported total was inaccurate.

The suit is asking the courts to declare Oakley as the winner.
