PITTSBURGH – It shows as a routine putout by shortstop Joey Ortiz in the box score.

But it might well have been the biggest at-bat of the night for Quinn Priester, who after scuffling through his first four innings got Spencer Horwitz to pop out to Ortiz to open the fifth inning.

It was the second pitch – a curveball – that finally came out of Priester's right hand the way he wanted it to, and from that point on it was lights out for the Pittsburgh Pirates as the 24-year-old became the first Milwaukee Brewers starter to complete seven innings in nearly a month in what turned out to be a satisfying 5-2 victory at PNC Park on Friday, Sept. 5.
