LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - In the past week, two Louisville men were arrested for acts of violence involving children. Now, experts are urging people to educate themselves on child abuse.
Kentucky Youth Advocates found over 14,000 children had been abused throughout the state over a 12-month period, and those are just the reported cases.
Child abuse pediatricians at Norton Children’s Hospital said their team sees about 1500 potential cases of abuse in a year.
“Kentucky consistently has more than double the national average for child abuse rate and child fatality rate. Indiana is a close second,” said Dr. Melissa Currie, a Child Abuse Pediatrician with Norton Children’s Pediatric Protection Specialists.
