IDAHO, USA — Idaho State University is exploring the acquisition of the Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine, a for-profit medical school in Meridian.

ISU President Robert Wagner said the idea has been under consideration for some time, though he did not provide a specific timeline for when discussions began.

The university recently hired national consulting firm Tripp Umbach to guide the decision-making process. He said ISU pulled $100,000 out of its auxiliary fund to cover the cost.

The two institutions started partnering about a decade ago, with ICOM situated on ISU-owned land adjacent to the university's health science campus in Meridian.

The consulting firm will help evaluate key questions about the potential acquisition, including its impact on current and future medical student
