Australian Border Force officials have arrested a Gold Coast man at Brisbane Airport, after he was caught allegedly attempting to smuggle 35kgs or $11.4 million worth of methamphetamine into the country.

Australian Border Force (ABF) revealed on Saturday that officers had arrested 62-year-old Gavin John Lahiff at Brisbane Airport on Friday after 35kg worth of methamphetamine was allegedly uncovered spread across two suitcases.

Lahiff was reportedly on a return international flight from Los Angeles and was stopped by authorities for a baggage examination.

Upon seizing his luggage officers allegedly unearthed a whopping total of 12 sealed plastic bags that contained a white powdered substance.

The suspicious substance later returned a positive reading for methamphetamine.
