Authorities have released the name of a woman killed in a domestic shooting in Hueytown.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Rocia Vega. She was 52.

Hueytown police received a 911 call shortly after 5:30 p.m. Thursday reporting a woman had been shot at a home in the 1700 block of Robins Street.

Hueytown Police Chief Mike Yarbrough said they arrived to find Vega unresponsive at the residence. She was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:54 p.m.

After speaking with witnesses, the chief said they determined the shooting to be domestic in nature.

The suspect has been identified but is not yet in custody.

“Our prayers are with the family during this difficult time,” Yarbrough said.

Vega is Hueytown’s first homicide in 2025.
