The people of Jamestown gathered to witness the farewell tour of one of the nation’s great showmen in early September of 1910.

Buffalo Bill Cody brought his Congress of Roughriders to Jamestown on Sept. 1. The tour had started in Madison Square Garden in New York City a few months earlier. Cody vowed that at the end of the tour, he would hand up his megaphone and retire from the public eye.

Cody’s roughriders had combined with Pawnee Bill’s Far East show to produce a truly worldwide extravaganza of horsemanship and exotic animals for the folks of Jamestown.
