Since Canada was founded nearly 160 years ago, it has been a great friend and neighbor. Now, the U.S. government has shamefully turned against it. Many Canadians rightfully feel hurt, angry and betrayed. It’s painful when President Trump calls Canada the 51 st state.

“That statement is disrespectful,” Joan Jarvis of Winnipeg told me. “We don’t want to be a 51 st state. We’re supposed to be friends. Trump doesn’t appreciate our sovereignty. It’s dismissive. It assumes everyone wants to be an American. I’m a proud Canadian.”
