The Michigan Economic Development Corporation will host three public hearings on how to spend more than $43.5 million in federal funding to address severe storms, tornadoes and flooding from storms on Aug. 23 and Aug. 24, 2023, that affected Oakland, Monroe, and Macomb counties.

Five people died over the two days when seven tornadoes tore across southeast Michigan. The storms downed trees, damaged buildings and caused significant flooding that closed roads and bridges.

National Weather Service records show the heaviest rain, more than seven inches, fell near Belleville. The hardest-hit Oakland County communities were Milford, where more than 3.3 inches of rain fell, and Wixom, where between 2.8 and more than three inches of rain fell.
