WEIRTON – Weirton Council will be asked to consider its third revision to the city’s 2025-26 fiscal budget during its meeting Monday, with the proposal receiving a recommendation from the Weirton Finance Committee Friday.
As part of the revisions, the General Government section of the budget will see a decrease of $434,775, leaving it with $350,225.
Those funds will be reallocated to other areas of the budget, with $120,000 going to the Weirton Fire Department and $314,775 going to Public Transit.
Finance Director Diana Smoljanovich explained Friday the Fire Department’s new funding will go toward the purchase of previously approved equipment.
An additional $30,000 already held by the department for use in support of its established volunteer division also will go toward the purchase.
