Dog owners have been put on high alert due to a surge in cases of a lethal canine virus with "barbaric symptoms". Local vet surgeries have reported instances of the parvo virus . ‌

The virus is transmitted between dogs through exposure to infected faeces . If left untreated, the virus can be fatal for the affected dog. Signs of infection can range from vomiting and severe diarrhoea, often bloody and foul-smelling, to lethargy.
