After 36 years of hiking and seeing the ephemeral beauty of spring wildflowers — most live only two weeks — Jack Gates has published “Spring Wildflowers of Eastern Woodlands, Photos, Facts, and Folklore.”

Jack and his wife, Donna Gates, lived in Danville from 2003 to 2017, while he operated his dental practice there.
