EDGEFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities have made multiple arrests in connection with a shooting that resulted from an online dispute in what one South Carolina sheriff described as "senseless" and a misguided "street justice" mentality.

The Edgefield County Sheriff's Office shared nine booking photos on Friday that it said showed suspects in an Aug. 15 shooting involving two groups who organized a meeting to fight in Edgefield. Sheriff Jody Rowland described the incident leading up to the shooting as an enlargement and "derogatory statements" made on social media.

Authorities said one female suspect brought a knife, and at least one male suspect from each group brought a gun. The dispute soon led to a shooting and ended with two people wounded, one of them critically, officials said. Since
