NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - The Northwestern District Attorney's Office is warning the public of an increase in asphalt paving schemes in the area.
According to the DA's Office, these schemes typically involve an individual or group showing up at a home unannounced, claiming that they have leftover materials from a nearby job. They will offer to repair, pave, or sealcoat your driveway, offering a bargain price if the homeowner agrees immediately.
However, in these schemes, the materials used are faulty, resulting in cracked or crumbling driveways. The work will often be rushed, and crews will sometimes start additional work without permission and demand more cash. In these instances, if the homeowner refuses, the crew may threaten to abandon the work without finishing.
