Michigan endured strong winds on Friday, Sept. 5, that led to gale warnings across the Great Lakes, with many areas across the state recording 50 mph wind gusts.

In addition to widespread gale warnings , the National Weather Service issued small craft advisories and high swim risks on Sept. 5 because of predicted life-threatening waves — up to 14 feet high in Lake Michigan and 15-20 feet on Lake Huron — and rip currents.

On Sept. 5, wind gusts across the state ranged from 30-40 mph and, according to the National Weather Service wind records , Saginaw recorded the highest gust of 50 mph.

As of Saturday, Sept. 6, high swim risk warnings and small craft advisories remained in place across the Great Lakes.
