Through training camp and preseason, the major storyline for the Washington Commanders was the ongoing holdout of wide receiver Terry McLaurin. However, while this was occurring, another potential long-term piece of the offense slowly started to emerge.

Following a lackluster final season in college where he only appeared in one game, running back Jacory Corskey-Merritt fell to the Commanders in the seventh round of the draft. Since arriving in Washington, he's slowly turned heads with his impressive play.

Croskey-Merritt put together a strong showing in the preseason, leading to chatter about him possibly being a featured back for the Commanders this season. It seemed the team had similar feelings, as they traded Brian Robinson Jr. to the San Francisco 49ers for draft compensation.
