A 24-year-old woman was hit by a car and killed while crossing a street in Scarborough on Friday afternoon.

Toronto Police say the victim was struck in a pedestrian crosswalk at Steeles Ave. E. and Midland Ave. just before 5 p.m.

“It is alleged that a 59-year-old male was operating a 2014 Subaru Forrester, travelling northbound on Midland Ave., making a left-hand turn onto westbound Steeles Ave. W.,” Const. Shannon Eames said in a statement released late Friday. “The Subaru struck the pedestrian and the driver remained on scene.”

She said the pedestrian, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

And the investigation into the city’s 28th road fatality of the year is “ongoing.”
