ST. LOUIS — Five Romanian nationals who installed skimming devices on ATMS throughout the St. Louis area were sentenced Friday in federal court.
Mihai Vlaicu, 48, and Mihai Florin Marinescu, 38, will serve two years in prison for a scheme that involved using cloned credit cards and stolen PINs to withdraw cash from bank customers' accounts. Three others — Laurentiu Miguel Ivan, 34; Nelu Nae, 37; and Venera Isabelle Dumitru, 28 — were sentenced by U.S. District Judge Sarah Pitlyk to time served while awaiting trial.
All five had pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud. They will likely be deported after they are released from prison, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office. A sixth person indicted in the case, Ianus Nita, 53, has not yet been arrest
