The legacy of a Chatham-Kent police officer continues to draw participants for a cause that was dear to his heart.
Fifty-five people gathered for the Mike Currie Memorial Torch Run at Talbot Trail Place in Blenheim on Saturday to raise money for Special Olympics Ontario.
Currie, who was a retired Chatham-Kent police officer and longtime cancer survivor, died in the fall of 2022. He was involved in many initiatives over the years supporting the Law Enforcement Torch Run.
“It’s nice that people come out to remember Mike,” said Peter Bakker, a retired officer. “He was a really great guy.
He fondly remembered assisting Currie during the 1997 games.
“He’s still in our hearts,” Bakker said.
